Afton Maland Warburton, 83 years young, sweetly passed from this earth Saturday, June 13, 2015, at her home in Grantsville, UT. She will be greatly missed by those who lived at “the compound” and those who lived away from here also. She was born November 14, 1931 in Lake Shore, UT to William H. and Zina Maland. Being the youngest child, she was used to getting all the attention she wanted. She had two brothers, Earl and Reed, and two sisters, Norma and Sarah, all who have preceded her in death. She married her sweetheart, Jerry H. Warburton, on February 24, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. They spent all the time they could together, hunting, fishing and exploring the Utah West Desert until he passed away in November 24, 1986. They were sealed together for time and all eternity on September 1, 2012 in the Salt Lake Temple. She spent 5 months traveling around Alaska but returned to the desert living in Grantsville during the summer and Quartzsite, Arizona in the winter. She will be deeply missed by her Quartzsite friends and all the fun times they had together. She is survived by her three children, Rebecca (Lynn) Taylor, Grantsville, David (Annette) Warburton, Grantsville, and Jeff (Louise) Warburton, LaPoint, UT. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many others who called her Mom. She helped everyone who needed her, especially if it was something to do with quilting. She has made hundreds of quilts, selling some and giving most away. We love her but know her life on earth is finished and she has a great work to do on the other side of the veil. We love you Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend. A viewing will be held Thursday, June 18 from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Grantsville 9th ward, 415 West Apple, Grantsville. Grantsville, Utah - Our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, neighbor and friend, left mortality to return to her Heavenly Father, July 2, 2015. She was born December 20, 1947 to Marvin Franklin Young and Thelma Ruth Carter. She married Thomas R. Hammond on August 20, 1970 and that marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is survived by her husband, Tom, sons Troy, Travis, Todd, Tovey, daughter Autumn (Hancey) and a wonderful posterity of 20 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary and three grandchildren, Keenan Hyrum, Natalie Antoinette and Bowdie Bob. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many ward and stake positions throughout her life in the Primary, Relief Society and Young Women organizations. She also served for many years as a ward organist and pianist. She loved playing the piano and organ but she also loved playing the Clarinet and Trumpet in the BYU Marching Band. After being married just a short time, she took a Geneaology class and became totally committed to searching out her ancestors. Through her dedication and research, she was able to meet some of her relatives in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee that none of her immediate family knew about and remained in close contact with them for years. She loved submitting names to the LDS Temple so individuals could begin receiving their temple work. During the course of forty + years she submitted over 55,000 names for temple work. Imagine the reunion she is having now. She was a Reporter for the Tooele Transcript Bulletin for nineteen years. She received numerous state and national awards for her in-depth coverage of news breaking stories. Her main passion in writing was for her weekly column "From the Heart" in which she expressed her feelings about every day events that affected many people's lives. Mostly she loved doing feature stories about people within Tooele County which recognized them for their many talents and contributions. Her stories would be in the Transcript's quarterly magazines so many people had an opportunity to read them. She would not just focus on the individual but she would find out who their parents were, where they came from, what they did for a living, etc. After reading her stories about a certain individual, you would feel like you knew them for years even though you never met them. She also had the opportunity to go to Haiti to witness the great dedication of medical experts who volunteered their time to assist some of the greatest people she ever met who had serious physical disabilities but always had a smile on their faces. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to bring them home with her, she really wanted to. Although she truly loved doing the Lord's work, she totally loved being around her children and grandchildren. Watching them participate in school, sports and other activities brought constant joy to her. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her but many cherished memories of her will be remembered for years to come. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2014 at the Grantsville 9th Chapel (414 W. Apple St, Grantsville). Friends and family may visit Wednesday, July 8th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grantsville City Cemetery. Grant Ask Gundersen

Grant Ask Gundersen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, returned home on August 12, 2015. Often his posterity heard him sing; “Have faith, hope, and charity. That’s the way to live successfully.” His 96 years of life certainly reflected those words.

Grant was born April 4, 1919 to Orson Wilford Gundersen and Ingeborg Johansen Terjesen in Idaho Falls, ID. He was proud of his Norweigan heritage. Grant grew up in the hard years of the depression. He had five brothers and three sisters and remembered lean years of a lot of hard work and not much money. From these experiences, he was especially aware of the “least of these.” He was generous with his time and his resources, often giving money to those who he felt were struggling. He and his brothers worked hard plastering but they also knew how to have fun. Four of the boys organized a quartet (Grant sang baritone) and they traveled around singing for various events. Grant loved to sing throughout his life. Grant and his brothers loved acrobatics and athletics. The Gundersen brothers’ basketball team won the stake church tournament most years.

He married his sweetheart, Marjorie Mae Calvert, on June 18, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. The first years of their marriage were spent moving from place to place as Grant enlisted in the Air Corps while World War II was raging. He served his country for four years. In his later years, he enjoyed studying the constitution and liked to talk about American ideals and government.

For 15 years, Grant worked as a building contractor with his brother in Holladay, Utah. He built the houses where he and Marjie raised their three sons and five daughters, of whom he was very proud.

Grant strived to follow the admonition of Jesus Christ to love the Lord with all your heart, might, mind, and strength and to love his neighbor. He was devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loved to study the gospel, and served in the bishopric twice, stake high council, and as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple for eighteen years.

Grant loved his family. He taught his children how to work hard and the importance of getting along with each other. He loved to hear his daughters sing and would often join in. His family will remember his strong will, honesty, and his love of fun activities and contests. He and Marjie were great supporters of athletic events of their children and grandchildren. Grandchildren will fondly remember “Grandpa Day” activities. As age made it harder for his athletic body to do what he loved, we will remember his devotion to Marjie, his patience, and his positive attitude through health trials. He never complained.

His proudest accomplishments were his eight children: Sherry (Earl) Larson, Vicky (Ernie) Matthews, Sandy (Steve) Allred, Kristy (Craig) Bleazard, Jerry (Audrey) Gundersen, Cindy (Edward) Cole, Kim (Tammy) Gundersen, and Tarvy (Priscilla) Gundersen. He has 47 grandchildren, 135 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. We are very proud to be counted among his surviving posterity and will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his brothers David and John. Grant was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjie, daughter Sherry, his parents: Orson and Ingeborg, brothers: Orson, Thomas, and Joseph, and sisters: Edith, Dorothy, and Mary.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Grantsville Stake Center, 550 E Durfee St. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 14 at the Grantsville Stake Center. The family will also greet friends 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the Saturday service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Grantsville City Cemetery.

Jami Lyne Brown Allen, beloved eternal companion, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, friend, passed peacefully away September 27, 2015 surrounded by her family. We miss her dearly. She was born October 18,1975 in Tacoma, WA. The second child, first daughter of Mont & Sally Marrott Brown. She grew up in Sandy, UT attending schools including Alta High School, where she made many devoted lifelong friends. One of her best gifts was the ability to reach out with an encouraging hand whether it was with writing heartfelt notes or remembering birthdays. She made friends wherever she went and was greatly loved by many.

She earned degrees in business from Dixie State and SUU. Jami was a talented artist. Jami had a great thirst for learning and always had a new interesting item to share with family friends about nutrition, politics or religion. She was blessed with the gift to reach out to youth and children; she was a master teacher. While living in Butte, MT, she taught early morning seminary. She was a hit with the youth and her class was always full. She taught home school for several years; her children had many fun learning experiences.

She enjoyed her nieces and nephews; she always had something fun to do or a new joke to share with them. She was known for her laughter and witty comments. No one was spared!

While attending an LDS fireside, she met her eternal companion Blake William Allen. They were married in the SL Temple October 6, 1999. From that loving union, they were blessed with four sweet children; Megan, Thomas, Mary and John.

Jami enjoyed times with the family outdoors. Being a great nutritionist and cook, she could whip up “the mother of all green smoothies” in a flash. Her children have fond memories of the bread she made for them.

Jami has a strong, abiding testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Her scriptures are well worn with many readings and underlined passages. She served cheerfully and diligently in many church callings.

Jami is survived by her loving husband, sweetest children, mother, brothers & sisters, adoring nieces and nephews: Joel Brown, Seth (Amy) Brown, Kelli (Nate) Lunt, Beth (Chad) Nelson. Loving in laws: Bill and Sharon Allen, Deniece (Craig) Reaveley, Natalie (Darin) Brush, Aimee Allen, Brooke (Brian) Smith. She is preceded in death by her awesome Dad, Mont Brown, grandparents, Keith and Elba Brown; Vern and Virginia Marrott.
