He was brought up with the utmost love and taught the utmost courage. Burt graduated from Grantsville High School with the class of ‘97, played college baseball for Barstow Community College and received several associate degrees from Salt Lake Community College. He met his ‘equal opposite’, Phoebe Bickmore, at a Grantsville High School dance when he was 17 and she was 15. After dating for 5 years, they were married on August 12, 2000, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple on September 7, 2001 with a love that transcends any earthly bounds. Burt and Phoebe have three cherished children, Walter Richard (age 9), Emmett William (age 7), and Fay Evelyn (age 5). Burt spent all of his precious extra minutes with his family, coaching, teasing, teaching, loving, planning, mentoring, and serving. Burt was fun-loving and quick-witted and looked for humor in all situations. Burt was as strong and hard-working as a person can be. He was the first to offer a smile and handshake or a hug to each individual he encountered. He built a reputation on serving and genuine affection. He had a heart of solid gold and served in many different capacities in the LDS church. Burt was an incredibly gifted coach and mentor to countless youth in soccer, wrestling, flag football, and basketball. He leaves a hole in youth sports that won’t soon be filled and will be deeply felt by his children. Burt’s career began in brick masonry, following in the footsteps of his father and brother Ernie, and evolved into nearly every trade imaginable. He enjoyed buying and improving properties and had recently become partners in a FastSigns franchise with his cousin and dear friend, David Peabody. Burt had an eye for quality and detail and an unsurpassed work ethic. His grit constructed a lifelong path of success. One of his greatest accomplishments was the home he built for his family, where he resided in Tooele, Utah. Burt loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family on adventures. His hobbies were making countless memories with his family and friends camping, boating, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Some things will never be explained to us in this life and moving forward without our revered father, husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, coach will prove virtually impossible. Wayne H. (Punch) Christiansen was called to his Heavenly Father on January 9, 2017. He was born on October 28, 1937 in White Pine County, Ely, Nevada to Byron Ray Christiansen Sr. and LaVerne Grantham. He was the fifth of six children and lived in Cherry Creek, Nevada on the family ranches. When Wayne was four the family moved to Tooele, Utah for work. During this time, Wayne contracted the dreaded polio disease which left him with many challenges in his life. He missed out on many childhood activities because he had to learn how to walk, talk and regain the use of one arm after recovering from polio. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Wayne attended church with his family and went to school while living in Tooele. Making up for lost time and with the help of his older brother Max, Wayne decided to try his hand at boxing. Max was a professional AAU boxer and was able to help Wayne overcome the physical effects caused from Polio. He won several matches including the Golden Gloves and this is where he earned the nickname “Punch.” Everyone that knows him seems to have a “Punchy” story. The rodeo was another interest that Wayne had and him and a couple of friends decided that they would give it a try. Riding bulls wasn’t easy, but Wayne loved the challenge. In Tooele, Wayne met and married Helen Marie Copley. Wayne was a skilled brick mason and taught his two oldest sons the trade. He enjoyed watching the children and grandchildren as they participated in various activities. He also had a passion for the desert, sleeping under the stars, trapping and chasing the wild horses, cutting Christmas trees, picking pine nuts, hunting and prospecting. He loved getting together with family and friends for dutch oven cookouts and that is when he seemed to be the happiest. There was something he wanted and that was for him and Helen to be remarried after many years of being separated. That was accomplished on November 1, 2016 and that was a joyous occasion for the whole family. Cancer would be the last battle that Wayne wouldn’t win, but it gave him the opportunity to spend time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Max Christiansen, sister Echo Hampton, and many other close family members and friends. He is survived by the love of his life Helen Christiansen; daughters Toni (Danny) Dickman, Vicki (Keith) Cordova, and Amy (Rick) Palmer; sons Byron (Bud) Christiansen, Bill (DeAnn) Christiansen, Clint (Kristi) Christiansen and James Ashley, 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He is also survived by his brothers Byron Ray (Nina) Christiansen and Douglas (Pat) Christiansen; sister LaNile (Floyd) Bracken; and sister in-law Jane (John) Copley. Thank you to the Huntsman Center and Rocky Mountain Hospice for all their special care. Services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the LDS Stake Center located at 115 E Cherry Street Grantsville, Utah. Lyndon A Mair…that’s me! The “A” stood for Alexander but my mom thought that putting all of the words together would make too long of a name so all I ended up with was A! No italics, no period, just A. As you can imagine, friends and not so good friends didn’t hesitate to fill in the blanks. Born: November 14, 1945 to Edna and Lindsay Mair in Heber City, Utah. Served an LDS mission to Scotland where I was able to serve my God and church for two glorious years. Married my sweetheart, Linda Joyce Mair, on April 17, 1970 and we were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 6, 1974. She was my joy, happiness (and royal pain) for 47 years and I will miss her dearly. My Father called me home (much to everyone’s surprise including myself) on January 30, 2017. Health issues kept me from completing everything in my bucket list but together, my wife and I were able to see more things and go more places with friends and family than one has a right to. (My motto in life? “Someone has to do it.”) My greatest accomplishment was the birth of my four children, Shane Mair (Katie), Tammy Bedford (Brian), Brock (lots of stuffed animal friends) and Jarom Mair (Emily). In addition, there were 11 grandchildren (almost a complete football team) with nine boys and two beautiful, young women. Barbara Belcher (sister) remains here on earth while I reunite with Mom, Dad, Arvella (sister), Juanita (sister) and Darwin (brother). As a family, we loved camping, fishing, boating, being Jordanelle camp hosts and cruising the Caribbean. I enjoyed creating original designs such as jewelry, glass mosaics and crocheting lawn chairs. Life here was wonderful…always full of fun, laughter and love. Before I am laid to rest, you are invited to visit with me one last time, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Village Boulevard Chapel, 390 East Village Boulevard, Stansbury Park, Utah from 10:00 am to 11:30 (viewing), 12:00 noon for service and my favorite part, luncheon for those who have traveled far and close friends or family. Life is good but GOD is great! Stay close to the latter and the former will continue to be true. (L Mair 2010) All my love, Lynn (1945-2017)
